A happy, healthy and prosperous 2013 to all.
Firstly, an email to those who are elected to represent us, prior to tomorrow’s Select Committee meeting regarding Rotherham issues.
“Dear Councillors C Beaumont, A Rushforth, M Godfrey, JM Andrews, L Astbury and L Donaldson,
“Rotherham Council has been accused of failing to protect young people in the local area who suffered from horrific sexual abuse. We will be asking who knew what, and when and why no action was taken for so many years.
We will also be looking into what changes have taken place in order to support and protect victims of localised grooming.”
Subject: Localised child grooming
Location: The Grimond Room, Portcullis House
(From Parliament’s website)
The Times articles exposed the large scale of child sexual abuse in Rotherham and confirmed the inadequacy of Labour councillors to deal with complex and deep rooted child abuse crimes. Rotherham’s Labour run council has kept the public uninformed over this and allowed children to be abused at the hands of organized gangs and individuals. Rotherham MBC has 63 elected members, the majority Labour. Councillors have been offered awareness training on child sexual exploitation yet out of the 63 councillors only 13 have shown any interest in the training.
So, in a town where children have been horrifically abused 50 councillors have not even bothered to register for the training.
Would you please individually inform me, as a resident of Rotherham and member of the electorate, whether you are one of the 13 who have agreed to attend the training or one of the 63 who have not.
If you are one of the 63 who have not, then please inform me and the rest of the electorate why you have chosen not to attend the training sessions.
I understand that two of the Boroughs secondary schools have not signed up for the training aimed at safeguarding their pupils. Please inform me if Maltby Academy has signed up for the training and what the training will actually involve.
I look forward to your early replies. “
If any readers of maltbyblogger would like to send a letter to any of their councillors or MP, I am sure that they will be more than happy to contact you.
Good letter MB. The last paragraph of your post contains an error though, it should read
“If any readers of maltbyblogger would like to send a letter to any of their councillors or MP, I am sure that they will be more than happy to fob you off with a standardised reply that doesn’t answer your questions.”
Or am I just being cynical? 😉
Thankyou R.Wilde. I was trying to give them a little “benefit of the doubt” seeing as it’s a new year and all.
You are not being cynical, it’s more a case of knowing our elected very well 🙂
